Noon - 1:00pm: The Changing Landscape in the Property and Casualty Arena (1 CFP CEU pending)

This intermediate level presentation will provide an in-depth review of the changes that are impacting P&C coverage and address why underwriting has become more stringent and why insurance premiums are rising. Our speaker, Tim Dodge, AU, ARM, CPCU, Assistant Vice President of Research and Information, Big I New York, will discuss how these changes affect coverage for Personal Lines (Homeowners and Personal Automobile) and Commercial lines (Property, General Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Cyber, and Directors and Officers).

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, attendees will have a good understanding of the current  P&C marketplace and be in a position to analyze and advise clients on the risks, costs and coverage options that will best meet their insurance needs.

1:00pm - 2:00pm: Seeking Tax Alpha in a Changing Environment (1 CFP CEU)

This presentation defines Tax Alpha and discusses the importance of planning in an uncertain tax environment. This is an intermediate/advanced discussion of personal tax implications as a result of recent tax law changes combined with the forward-looking potential income tax & estate tax implications given the changing political landscape. Our presenter, Tom Rowley, Senior Consultant, Advanced Market Group, Brighthouse Financial, will focus on three phases of Tax Alpha – Efficient Location & Diversification, Retirement Income Structuring, and Legacy Planning. These pillars are discussed to provide actionable strategies for minimizing or eliminating the impact of taxes on an investor’s financial goals. Specific emphasis will be placed on the advantage of utilizing the tax benefits of insurance products in addition to the guaranteed features. QLAC, Deferred & Immediate Annuities, Cash Value Life Insurance and Hybrid Life Insurance are highlighted for the roles they can play in tax management.

Learning Objectives:

The participating audience should be able to: 1. Identify the importance of planning in an uncertain tax environment 2. Understand the current income tax environment and the outlook on future taxation changes 3. Learn about five strategies or pillars to effectively help clients manage their tax efficiency 4. Gain understanding of the provisional income & social security taxation 5. Learn strategies to avoid or reduce the amount of adjusted gross income or modified adjusted gross income subject to itemized deduction and personal exemption phase out levels 6. Learn about charitable trusts, who they benefit, and how they work 7. Have examples of ways to defer income to reduce modified adjusted gross income 8. Understand the importance of tax location planning and what types of assets work best in taxable versus tax-deferred vehicles 9. Learn about the role annuities & life insurance may play in generating Tax Alpha.
