About The Event

Don't miss our first in-person dinner meeting of the fall season and new member reception to be held on the patio at Sam's of Gedney Way featuring Susan Olson, Vice President of Government Relations, Natixis Investment Managers, on Politics in 2022: The Old is New Again. (This session has been accepted for 1 CFP CEU.) Click here for speaker bio.

This presentation looks at the political environment in 2022 and the Biden Administration’s priorities with a focus on inflation, energy prices and Russia’s war against the Ukraine.

Next, we focus on what Congress wants to accomplish and what is possible considering the Democrats have a thin majority, there is friction within the party and it is an election year. We examine the 2022 midterm elections – what races we believe will be competitive and what the messaging from both sides will be. We review the SEC and DOL proposed rulemaking in 2022 and what it could mean for today’s financial professional in relation to retirement planning, fiduciary responsibilities, ESG regulation, diversity, equity and inclusion guidelines, proxy voting and cybersecurity risk guidance.

Finally, we recap where the country is with COVID infections, vaccinations, and DC’s response.

• The Biden Administration priorities in 2022 o What is their response to rising energy prices and inflation and Russia’s war on Ukraine? o The political dynamics at play in an almost evenly-divided Congress

• What is Congress’s 2022 priorities? o What divisions exist within each party

• What are the regulation agendas for the SEC and the DOL? o The potential effects of new regulation on markets, asset management and the financial services industry

• Where is the country with COVID cases? o A look at trends in new cases and fatalities o Where is the US with vaccinations? o What risks are still lurking?

Learning Objective(s):

1. Highlight how policymakers are working to address the Covid-19 public health and economic crisis, illustrating the relationship between Congressional action and the Biden administration’s agenda.

2. Educate financial professionals on how Congressional committee actions may affect financial services, markets, and investors, and how changes in federal banking and investment policies, new retirement legislation, and changes to ESG investing criteria have the potential to inform the work of financial services professionals and financial planners in the years ahead.
